"Sunrise in Dublin, The Four Courts, Dublin"

The Four Courts, on the banks of the river Liffey in Dublin, is the main seat of justice in Ireland and houses the The Supreme Court, The Court of Appeal, The High Court and The Dublin Circuit Courts. It's construction started in 1786 and took 16 years to complete and it has played its part in many chapters of the foundation of the Irish Free State and eventually the Irish Republic.

It was over-run and occupied by Irish Republican Brotherhood Commandant Edward Daly's forces during the 1916 Easter Rising and was the scene of some of the most intense fighting of that week. Daly himself was later to be executed along side all the other signatories of the Irish Proclamation at the end of the rising.

Even more tragically it became one of the main focal points of the Irish Civil war, when  IRA forces, led by Rory O'Connor opposed to the Anglo Irish Treaty, occupied the building as a sign of defiance against the new Free State. It eventually forced Michael Collins to turn his artillery on his former comrades of 1916....the essence of civil war. The battle was short lived but  not without its casualties and the most prominent of whom was Cathal Brugha, former 1916 commander and friend of Padraig Pearse.
