Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. Built approx 1,000 years ago, this scene is taken looking up from Dame Street, a view I often thought overlooked by many artists and creates a great perspective for painting.

The Cathedral is the oldest working structure in Dublin and house's a very rare copy of the 14th century Magna Carta. Is also the final resting place for the great Norman invader, Strongbow.

Built a short distance from the banks of the River Liffey, Christchurch formed part of a perimeter wall that protected Dublin in this era from raiders and to live within these walls you had to pay a tax or tariff for this protection. This is why the part of Dublin city just outside these walls became famously known as the "Liberties".

Available Framed or Unframed in various sizes.
