Here's a painting I recently created near Athy, Co. Kildare. It depicts a typical Irish rural scene of a farmer at the end of a cold autumn day, leading his dairy cattle home for the evening.
There's a damp chill in the air and the farmer walks, his collar pulled up to keep the cold from his neck. Red, orange and yellow leaves fall around him and as a light mist of steam rise's from the backs of the cattle in front. The sweet scent of burning turf is in the air which turns his thoughts to a hot supper, a warm open fire and the comfort of family that awaits him at the end of his tough day. There are no "days off" for his profession, there is no "calling in sick", but there is no other job he'd rather do.....born to the land, as simple as that.
