"Maire II"- Original Painting

I've often heard art critics describe paintings of boats as being a little "twee" or "kitchy" and to be honest I can't understand why. I have always found boats, and their various shapes and sizes so interesting. They show the unbelieveable skill used by master craftmen to shape wood or steel into a structure that can stay boyant in rough water, that cuts through waves effortlessly and when the sun hits them I love how the shadows react. This boat in particular tells its own story, a fishing vessel now retired but every blemish, every spot of rust tells us of the various battles it once had on the high sea's. Hope you like it.
