Located off the south west coast of Cobh, County Cork, Fastnet Rock is the furthest point south in Ireland. In fact, it was the very last part of Ireland that Irish emigrants, fleeing the great potato famine of 1845, ever saw of their home and earned itself the nickname "Irelands Teardrop". Even writing that, just feels so sad and desperate, I can't imagine how heart-breaking it must have been for them.
As for the lighthouse itself, after spending most of my adult life working in construction, I am in total awe of this structure and where it is. The sheer effort to transport and construct this building must have been massive, especially when you consider that each block ,weighing approx. 2 tonne each, is dovetailed into each other with no mortar joints....wow!

Available Framed or Unframed in various sizes.
